On September 6th, Sub Pop will release Frankie Cosmos’ fourth studio album, Close It Quietly. This album is a manifestation of the band’s collaborative spirit: Greta Kline and longtime bandmates Lauren Martin (synth), Luke Pyenson (drums), and Alex Bailey (bass) luxuriated in studio time with Gabe Wax, who engineered and co-produced the record with the band.

Recording close to home — at Brooklyn’s Figure 8 Studios— grounded the band, and their process was enriched by working closely with Wax, whose intuition and attention to detail made the familiar unfamiliar and allowed the band to reshape their own contexts. Close It Quietly is a continual reframing of the known, taking the band’s trademark micro-universe and upending it, spilling outwards into a swirl of referentiality that’s a marked departure from earlier releases, imagining and reimagining motifs and sounds throughout the album.

Frankie Cosmos has announced a World Tour, splitting these shows into three legs. The first leg of dates will begin on September 18 in Boston, MA, and end on Sep. 29 in their hometown of New York City. They will then head overseas beginning on Oct. 8th in Munich, Germany with shows in Prague, Amsterdam, and Paris, ending on Oct. 22nd in London. The final leg of dates will run from Oct 31st – Nov 16th with shows in Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, Los Angeles, and Berkeley. See below for a full list of shows.

Flightless Records, Cook Craig returns with his first music as Pipe-eye since 2017’s cult release Laugh About Life. Appearing in more Flightless line-ups then any of his label contemporaries (King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, The Murlocs and Pipe-eye) Cook’s new Pipe-eye album, Inside/Outside is out now and available for order at Flightless HERE.

Kishi Bashi has shared an animated video for his song “Violin Tsunami,” off his new Headphone Approved album Omoiyari and directed by Julia and Mike McCoy.

“The inspiration for the song that came from a violin that was gifted to me called ‘Tsunami.’ The luthier, who is Japanese-Brazilian and an ordained buddhist priest, told me he embodied his prayers for the victims and survivors of the Fukushima tsunami tragedy into the making of the instrument,” explains Kishi Bashi. “I immediately began to play it and was inspired to create a piece of music about the injustice of the Japanese-American Incarceration of WWII. In the video, the spirits are ultimately transformed into a peaceful bed of lanterns that embody the spirit of healing and the transmission of memory.”

Kishi Bashi has also announced an extensive fall North American headline tour. The dates will begin September 26th in Atlanta, GA, and continue through November 9th in Charlottesville, VA, and include an October 14th show in Los Angeles and a November 2nd show in Brooklyn. Kyle Craft and his band, Showboat Honey, has delivered an official video for “Broken Mirror Pose.” The track is from Showboat Honey, the group’s forthcoming album, out July 12th worldwide from Sub Pop. The performance-based visual was directed by the band.

Craft had this to say of the visual, “We shot “Broken Mirror Pose” at Moonbase Studios, which is where we tracked the entire record ourselves! This one was 95% DIY, much like the album. I built out a room inside of the main studio room and my pal, Bryson Cone, showed me how to edit afterward, letting me take the wheel once I had a little know how.”

With her new album, Midnight, arriving this Friday, June 7th, on Saddle Creek, Detroit’s Stef Chura is back today with “Scream.” It serves as further proof of Stef’s singular knack for merging melody and tumult – made even clearer on this record as a result of her collaboration with producer Will Toledo of Car Seat Headrest.

Behind its punchy veneer, it’s a track that Stef describes as being “partly about the loneliness of social media. How being popular online doesn’t equate to feeling whole in your real life, projecting a persona of an ideal ‘you’ online.”

The video for “Scream” was directed by Ambar Navarro – that plays on these themes of duality, popularity and personality. Stef Chura will embark on a North American tour, kicking off at Empty Bottle in Chicago. All tour dates are below.

The Figgs are looking to release their 14th studio album, Shady Grove, a six sided behemoth of a record featuring a slew of the catchy, harmony drenched tunes which they’ve become attached to their whole career.

Shady Grove is a very special album to The Figgs. Since they began cutting the tracks that would become “Shady Grove”, losses would hit the band in profound ways. A few months into the tracking of the album, their longtime musical associate and touring keyboardist, Ted Collins, died in early 2017. Ted had originally played in the band from which Gent and Donnelly had poached Hayes! He had been a dear friend to the band since the very early days. Needless to say, it was a heartbreaking loss.

Later in 2017, another long time friend and roadie, Eric Harmon, passed away. The Figgs met Eric on one of their first National tours when he was playing drums for the Chainsaw Kittens. Harmon would later join The Figgs on dozens of headlining tours working as their road manager, drum tech, merchandise handler and therapist. Other people close to the band left them in 2018 and 2019 making death a constant in their recent lives.

The Figgs soldiered on with the new album allowing some of the more experimental numbers on the record to be tributes to these lost comrades. You can help finish the project HERE at Indiegogo.
