Trailer Premiere: Linear Downfall – “Sufferland”

I know – The Fire Note is not a movie site so why do we have a trailer premiere today? Well, the easy answer is that the film Sufferland was created by the Nashville experimental band Linear Downfall as an accompiment to their full length album of the same name that is set to release on November 6th.

The film is described as, “A walk through the many compartmentalized landscapes in the mind of a tormented girl who is under the control of a tormented man,” and was chosen to be a part of the 2015 Nashville Film Festival. It will not take you long into the trailer to feel and hear the intesity of this film and record!

The cool thing about this duel release project is that Linear Downfall did everything. They wrote, directed, edited and even built the sets at their house for this film. The trailer is intense and I will warn you that cutting meat will never be the same! It also won’t surprise you to know that a couple of influences for this film were David Lynch and Federico Fellini.

If this seems a bit far out for you it is important to know that this is not Linear Downfall’s first rodeo. The band has self-released three albums and one EP, extensively toured the U.S., and joined the Flaming Lips with their side project called the Electric Würms. Linear Downfall will be touring the film with a list of screenings across the US to promote the release and upcoming tour. Watch the trailer and then below you can hear “The Question,” which is also part of the project. Enjoy!

Motel Beds: “Mind Glitter”

Dayton, Ohio’s Motel Beds are set to release their latest full-length Mind Glitter on October 23 via Anyway Records. Gearing up for its release here is a video for the title cut.

I can already tell you that Mind Glitter is another keeper from this Fire Note favorite. As for the video, be careful if you are hungry because the clip is made up of classic fast food commercials from the ‘70s and ‘80s. Yum – just like the track!

Ricked Wicky: “Poor Substitute”

Robert Pollard’s Ricked Wicky project just released Swimmer To A Liquid Armchair, which is their third album this year, and now today we get a great video for “Poor Substitute.”

The video features Rob Corddry (Hot Tub Time Machine, “The Daily Show”, “Ballers”), Nate Cordry (“Mom”, The Invention of Lying), Matt Jones (Badger from “Breaking Bad”), and Seth Morris (“Childrens Hospital”, Step Brothers), all getting their Pollard on!

You can grab a copy of the record over at Rockathon HERE.

Algiers: “And When You Fall”

London and New York-based trio Algiers today released a new video for “And When You Fall,” which features a heady mix of live performance footage and visuals shot on VHS at night in various locations around London. Directed by Lamb & Sea, who Algiers previously worked with on their “Blood,” “Black Eunuch,” and “Irony. Utility. Pretext.” videos, the video is filled with fast cuts that mimic the driving percussion and haunting howls of frontman Franklin James Fisher.

Algiers is currently on a headlining tour of major markets throughout North America, playing Los Angeles tonight and culminating with a show at Rough Trade in Brooklyn on October 11th. The tour continues in Europe throughout October and November, and the full list of tour dates can be found below.
