Priests Announce New Album, Share Video For Title Track, Announce 2019 Tour Dates

Washington, D.C. rock iconoclasts Priests return on April 5th with a new record titled The Seduction of Kansas via Sister Polygon Records. They also have a world tour planned (dates below) and this video for the title track.

Entering their eighth year as a band, Priests—drummer Daniele Daniele, vocalist Katie Alice Greer, and guitarist G.L. Jaguar—remain an inspired anomaly in modern music. A band on its own label—jolting the greater music world with early releases by Downtown Boys, Snail Mail, Sneaks, and Gauche—they are living proof that it is still possible to work on one’s own terms, to collectively cultivate one’s own world.

Priests enlisted two primary collaborators in writing, arranging, and recording The Seduction of Kansas. After playing cello, mellotron, and lap steel on Nothing Feels Natural, multi-instrumentalist Janel Leppin (Mellow Diamond, Marissa Nadler) returned to breathe air into Priests’ demos, serving as primary bassist and a fourth songwriting collaborator on The Seduction of Kansas. The band also found a kindred spirit in producer John Congleton (Angel Olsen, St. Vincent), recording for two weeks at his Elmwood Studio in Dallas. It marked the band’s first time opening up their creative work to collaborate with someone outside of their DC-based community—a decidedly less hermetic approach. Priests found a third collaborator in bassist Alexandra Tyson, who has also joined the touring band. The songwriting process found the group once again analyzing the textures and scopes of albums as aggressive as they are introspective, like Massive Attack’s Mezzanine, Portishead’s Third, and Nine Inch Nails’ Downward Spiral.

Lala Lala – “Scary Movie” [Video]

Lala Lala’s new album The Lamb was recently released on Hardly Arts records. Lala Lala (Lillie West) has a new video for album track “Scary Movie,” which contains recently-discovered footage that was originally filmed on 16mm by West’s parents before she was born. West re-edited it for the new song, explaining, “‘Scary Movie’ is primarily about perception and the often blurred line between reality and non reality.

Lala Lala is out on the road that include additional dates supporting WHY? and Mothers, including a stop at LA’s Resident on October 12th and a new NYC show at Brooklyn’s Elsewhere on November 30th. See below for all the tour dates.

Swamp Dogg – “Lonely” [Video]

Swamp Dogg’s new album Love, Loss, and Auto-Tune from Joyful Noise Recordings debuted this week at #7 on Billboard’s ‘Heatseekers’ chart — Swamp Dogg’s first chart debut since his debut album Total Destruction To Your Mind in 1970. To celebrate, Swamp released an this music video for album single “Lonely,” alongside the announcement of a rare show at London’s Rich Mix on Nov. 13th and a performance at Le Guess Who? Festival.

The “Lonely” video, directed by the “I’ll Pretend” team Isaac Gale and Ryan Olson, co-stars Robyne Robinson (the first African-American primetime news anchor in Minnesota and soon to be Minnesota Broadcasting Hall of Fame inductee).

Deaf Wish – “FFS” [Video]

Melbourne’s Deaf Wish have an official video for “FFS” which was the lead single from Lithium Zion, their newest album that was released in July.

“FFS” was directed by band members Jensen Tjhung and Daniel Twomey and shot in glorious black and white, and stars guitarist/vocalist Sarah Hardiman delivering an intense and engaging performance of the song.

Jon Spencer is back! Often imitated, never duplicated, the original NYC underground-rock legend returns from the wilderness with twelve red-hot hits, each more powerful than the last!

Jon Spencer has announced his first solo album Spencer Sings the Hits! which is out early fall 2018 via In The Red Records. You can now watch the first track “Do The Trash Can.”

Spencer is headlining a US Tour plus some dates with the Melvins. You can check them out below. The new record was recorded and mixed with Bill Skibbe at the Key Club in Benton Harbor, MI and features the talents of Sam Coomes (Quasi, Heatmeiser) and M. Sord (M. Sord).
