Album Review
Oso Oso β€’ an exchange of information β€’ Energetic Emo Rock

β€œFrom its driving guitars to its infectious melodies, an exchange of information captures Oso Oso sounding urgent, confident, and fully realized once again.”

Oso Oso’s an exchange of information brings a punchier, harder rocking approach to Jade Lilitri’s blend of indie rock and emo, with driving guitars, huge hooks, and some of his strongest storytelling. Mostly recorded in two weeks with Dan Maddalone at BirthdayLand Studios, it also launches Feral Twin, the new label from Hop Along drummer Mark Quinlan. Where 2024’s life till bones was shaped by the 2021 death of guitarist and cousin Tavish Maloney and built piece by piece, this one sounds urgent and alive. That energy pushes against a darker story, as the narrator who refuses to give up on a dream in β€œit’s all bait” slowly loses faith by β€œthe premiums.” The smoldering β€œsomeone like that” turns grittier as Kory Gregory of Prince Daddy & the Hyena and guitarist Eddy Rodriguez scream behind Lilitri, while he rides above the rising guitars. Chelsea Paige Ragan’s guitar solo then sends closer β€œthe days” out on a high. We haven’t heard Lilitri sound this fully realized since the excellent basking in the glow (2019). This is Oso Oso sounding revitalized without losing what made the project special.

Pivotal Tracks

β€œit’s all bait”
A rush of driving guitars and infectious hooks carries a plea not to give up on your dreams in a world seemingly designed to make you abandon them.
β€œthe facts”
Reverb-soaked guitars gradually build around one of Lilitri’s most affecting melodies before the song closes as a dedication to anyone just trying to survive the world.
β€œshe rides in the stars”
The song steadily builds as layered vocals move in and out around the β€œlove my baby” chorus, making it one of the breeziest, most foot-tapping numbers on the album.

Artists with Similar Fire

The Hotelier
Like Lilitri, they turn personal storytelling into huge guitar payoffs built for shouting along.
Jimmy Eat World
Their polished guitar anthems show how far emo songwriting can stretch while keeping every chorus big and every feeling close to the surface.
The Get Up Kids
Their combination of ringing guitars, bittersweet melodies, and instantly memorable choruses helped establish the foundation that Oso Oso continues to build upon.
