Show Me
THAO — 2026
THAO • Show Me • Groovy Indie Rock
“Six years away haven’t dulled THAO’s instincts, as Show Me delivers the restless grooves, inventive guitars, and emotional honesty that have always made her music stand apart.”
After six years between albums, Thao Nguyen returns with Show Me, and it doesn’t take long to remember why her music has always stood apart in indie rock. She has retired The Get Down Stay Down name and now records as THAO, but the best parts of her sound made the trip: loose guitar rhythms, funky bass lines, and offbeat percussion that lock into irresistible grooves. Co-producers Nate Brenner and Merrill Garbus of Tune-Yards keep those arrangements restless, while Neko Case, The Linda Lindas, and Adrian Quesada of Black Pumas each pull the songs somewhere new. What I like most, though, is the emotional openness beneath all that movement. Following a divorce and years of personal change, THAO writes about desire, forgiveness, and the courage to let someone in again, though “Sick Of The Times” shows she still has plenty of fight left for the world outside. Six years was a long wait, but Show Me earns it.
