Here is the new video for The Julie Ruin’s “Mr. So and So,” directed by lead singer Kathleen Hanna. The song is from their new release Hit Reset which is out now via Hardly Art.
In the video you will find The Julie Ruin’s drummer Carmine Covelli playing the eponymous “Mr. So and So,” a self-proclaimed “male feminist” whose actions speak louder than his words. The band is currently on tour and you can see the dates below.

The Garden – “Call This # Now” [Video]
California’s The Garden released their debut album Haha via Epitaph/Burger last October. The two-piece bass and drum attack has been building a fanbase in the UK with their unique modern punk.
The group is already following up last year’s release with new music that includes today’s video for “Call This # Now!” The video is weird, catchy and like a b movie you can’t turn away from with its old school DIY vibe. The band is currently on tour across seas which you can find the dates below.

Jimmy Eat World – “Get Right” [Video]
Jimmy Eat World is back and here is the new lyric video “Get Right.” The group already announced a 7″ for the release and now has put up pre-order for the full length due out October 21st.
The album does not have a title yet or track listing but if you order the vinyl per JEW you will get the rarest variant. You can pre-order HERE.
Metallica – “Hardwired” [Video]
At this point in time it is really easy to dismiss Metallica as irrelevant. Death Magnetic (2008) was not a bad return to form and debatebly their best output since the black album in 1991. So eight years later here we go – Hardwired…to Self-Destruct will be released on November 18th and this first single feels very retro Metallica. Already, I have seen tons of mixed feelings on the song but I think it is hard to turn away from these Kill ‘Em All style riffs and drums. What the album will sound like – who cares. This track will shake your speakers!
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard – “Robot Stop” [Video]
There is a reason TFN digs King Gizzard and “Robot Stop” is one of them. Much like their record, Nonagon Infinity, this video is a crazy frenzy to its end. Go ahead and start chanting now – “Nonagon infinity opens the door / Nonagon infinity opens the door!”
Green Day – “Bang Bang” [Video]
Green Day will release their 12th studio album, entitled Revolution Radio, on October 7th via Reprise Records. “Bang Bang” is the first single and video off the record. I will say it is 100% Green Day with its punk speed, hook and political statement. In fact, the last third of this track rips!
Produced by Green Day and recorded in Oakland, Revolution Radio is said to be a 12-track blitz of angst-ridden anthems that captures Green Day pefectly. I will say that the album artwork is great. Currently, there is a limited red vinyl variant for pre-order at the band’s website HERE. Tracklisting below.

The track-listing for Revolution Radio is as follows:
1. Somewhere Now
2. Bang Bang
3. Revolution Radio
4. Say Goodbye
5. Outlaws
6. Bouncing Off The Wall
7. Still Breathing
8. Youngblood
9. Too Dumb To Die
10. Troubled Times
11. Forever Now
12. Ordinary World
Ryley Walker – “The Roundabout” [Video]
Ryley Walker definitely has potential and on his new record, Golden Sings That Have Been Sung (out 8/19 on Dead Oceans) he could just possibly land in our Top 50 of 2016. Following his excellent 2015’s Primrose Green, Walker continues to grow as a songwriter and Golden Sings is said to be a distinctly Chicago record and you can really feel the weight of that city’s influence upon first listen.
The video for his latest single “The Roundabout,” was directed, filmed and edited by Joe Martinez Jr. and is all about the fireworks. The video backs up the Chicago theme and probably will remind many of past 4th holiday celebrations!
Big Eyes – Stake My Claim [Video]
Have you checked out Big Eyes yet? They are a punk band with pop sensibilities and can simply rock out a song. Their upcoming LP, Stake My Claim, is out August 19 via Don Giovanni Records. RIYL: Joan Jett, Weezer, The Clash, Bleached
Frankie Cosmos – “Sinister” [Video]
Frankie Cosmos has a great new music video for “Sinister,” from her latest release, Next Thing. The video was directed by Eliza Doyle and features Frankie and bodybuilder Don Martone in matching outfits and braids. It is what a video should be – fun!
Frankie Cosmos has added more dates to her tour. After her European dates, she will return to North America in October. Check out her schedule below.

Honey Radar – “Pinwheel” [Video]
Have you caught the Honey Radar fever yet? If you read our review of the newly released Blank Cartoon you should have. Now check out their lo-fi video for “Pinwheel” off the record.
The Wedding Present – “Bear” [Video]
The Wedding Present had some great records early in their career such as and Seamonsters (1991) and Watusi (1994) but it is great to see the band releasing new material today. Here is the video for their new single “Bear” off the upcoming Going, Going… on September 2nd via Scopitones.
The new record sounds like a monster with its opening four instrumental songs, before breaking out with a jangle of clanging guitars, a squeal of feedback and a rush of adrenaline.
The tracklisting for the the new album is below along with pre-order info as it is available in three audio-visual formats: standard CD + DVD, deluxe CD + DVD in hard-bound ‘book pack’ with extra tracks + lyrics, deluxe double 180g LP + DVD with extra tracks + lyrics.

The Dead Ships – “First Mistakes” [Video]
The Dead Ships debut full-length LP CITYCIDE is out now on Nevado Music. Here is the band’s new video for “First Mistakes” off of the album. The Dead Ships had an opportunity to sit in with multi-platinum producer/guitarist Chris Thorn of Blind Melon and Awolnation to make an alternate version of “First Mistakes” heard in the video.
About the video, The Dead Ships’ Devlin McClusky says, “Because most of the songs were written to help process grief so many have an undercurrent of sadness. First mistakes feels more hopeful but still comes from and always reminds me of such a sad period.” He adds, “When [director] Kelly Reed came to us with the concept of taped up smiles, it brought to the fore some of the darker parts of the emotional spectrum that may be overlooked by the first listen to such a sentimental feeling like “it was good to be alive”. I love those studies that come out every now again that show the physical formation of a smile on your face actually stimulates parts of your brain and causes a chain reaction that puts you in a better mood. No one wants to force a smile, but you can always assert some level of control over yourself and change how you feel.”
Ty Segall – “Californian Hills” [Video]
We always enjoy some Ty Segall and today we get the new animated video for “Californian Hills.” It is another track off of Emotional Mugger and the video for sure will leave lasting images in your head.
The video, directed by Meghan Tryon and Garrett Davis, has a lot going on including jesters, knights and clowns. That is right clowns! Enjoy but don’t watch too many times as you might start seeing spots!
Awards Banquet – “(What Have You Done To Me) Ohio” [Video]
Awards Banquet is the new band from the once Columbus, Ohio based JP Olsen, who now calls Brooklyn home. With that said, he still can put out a perfect indie pop track about the nation’s 17th state. In support of their new record If Not Now Then Summer, Awards Banquet has a new video for “(What Have You Done To Me) Ohio” that captures that laid back summer concert vibe.
Courtney Barnett – “Elevator Operator” [Video]
Here is a great new video from Courtney Barnett! This is for her new single “Elevator Operator” which was directed by Sunny Leunig (son of legendary Australian cartoonist Michael Leunig, who himself appears briefly in the video) and crammed with cameos.
You will find Sleater-Kinney, Magda Szubanski (“Kath & Kim”), Jeff Tweedy (Wilco), and musical Antipodean legends such as The Drones, Tim Rogers and Paul Kelly. This is really what making videos are all about – good times and support for a solid song. You can still catch Courtney on tour at the dates listed below.

Paul Orwell Organized Blues LP – 50 Blue / 350 Black
Paul Orwell is a singer / songwriter from Essex who has great old school sound talent which we loved on his full length debut Blowing Your Mind Away. His new record is an Instru’MENTAL’ album titled ORGANIZED BLUES which will go up on Pre-Order today.
As most Heavy Soul Records release the album is a vinyl only release on heavy wax with only 400 pressed. 350 BLACK VINYL and a very limited 50 BLUE VINYL. His output typically sells fast so don’t delay and look HERE for a copy after 4 PM est today.
Just to get a taste we also included Orwell’s new video for “DON’T DO AS I DO, JUST DO AS I SAY!”
Dinosaur Jr. – “Tiny” [Video]
Dinosaur Jr. has shared the first video off their new record, Give A Glimpse Of What Yer Not, which is out August 5th via Jagjaguwar. If you are a fan, I think the song and his skateboarding bulldog, Beefy, is all you need to know!
Video Premiere: American Monoxide – “Sciatic Nerve”
We have the perfect video premiere today for our TFN readers that love music which lives on the edge. Tucson, Arizona’s American Monoxide brings you a lo-tech spastic jam called “Sciatic Nerve,” which will instantly get into your head with its groove and repetitive spoken title.
American Monoxide is actually the solo home recordings of Dimitri Manos. He is hard to place in one genre and offers mostly instrumental mixes which range from dance to trash to noise to novelty. The entire record is a fascinating listen but I think this video spotlights his focus and why you should check out American Monoxide!
“Sciatic Nerve” sticks with you visually as it feels like the alternate universe version to the Beastie’s “Sabotage.” It has a lot going on for only running 1:30 and that’s what makes it fun. What’s in the bag? Why is he smoking a cigarette now? Why did he just throw his hat? All questions with no answers – I guess you just need to enjoy the track and let your mind fill in the blanks!

Moonface And Siinai – Risto’s Riff [Video]
Spencer Krug’s Moonface and Siinai’s new album, My Best Human Face, is out now on Jagjaguwar. The lead single, “Risto’s Riff,” gets a visual treatment here from director Marsha Balaeva with design assistance from Tamsin Rose Creations. Watch as creatures come to life seemingly out of nowhere in the video. It’s as chaotic and perfect as the song itself. Check it out.
Yak – “Use Somebody” [Video]
Yak released their excellent debut album Alas Salvation last month and now have a video for new single “Use Somebody.” The video was directed by Douglas Hart of The Jesus and Mary Chain, and features the band in a high-speed, crash-strewn chase around London in a hearse recently purchased by frontman Oli Burslem. Enjoy!
Shrug – “Radio Madonna” [Video]
If there ever was a band that I thought would break out of Dayton, Ohio it was Shrug. Mainstays on the local circuit back in the mid-90’s the group released several quality records but never quite broke through to the bigger audience they deserved. It has been ten years since the band released a new record although its members have stayed busy in some recent groups TFN has featured here that include The Motel Beds, Human Cannonball, and The Boxcar Suite.
Well, the guys are back with their fifth long player titled Age of Ashes, which is set to release June 11th. “Radio Madonna” is the first track and video from the album and really finds the group getting back to their roots! If you enjoy the song you can also snag a free download of the single from their Bandcamp page until the album’s release.

Twin Peaks – “Butterfly” [Video]
Twin Peaks released their new record, Down In Heaven, today along with a new video for the song “Butterfly.” The video was clearly inspired in part by the acid trip scene in Easy Rider, and directed by Ezra Ewen.
Following a Chicago kick-off tonight, the band is hitting the road, with both headline dates and gigs supporting Cage The Elephant on a leg of arena shows. Check out the dates below.

Produced by Gil Norton (Pixies, Foo Fighters, Patti Smith) and recorded at Rockfield Studios, By Default finds the English trio—Richardson, Russell Marsden (guitar, vocals) and Matt Hayward (drums). King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard – “People-Vultures” [Video]
The Australian psych septet King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard have an exciting and crazy new video for “People-Vultures.” The track is off the Headphone Approved record Nonagon Infinity and is just another fine example of the rocket ride this record takes.
