Westside Cowboy’s “Dobro” Is a Strut Song — and the Debut Album Is Nine Days Away

The final preview of It Goes On is a warm, fuzzed-out groover that hands the mic to Jimmy Bradbury and walks away cool

Westside Cowboy

Nine days out from their debut album and Westside Cowboy are still finding new pockets of themselves to show. “Dobro” is the third and final single from It Goes On, produced by Loren Humphrey at Greenmount Studios in Leeds, and it is the loosest, most laconic thing they’ve put out yet. James (Jimmy) Bradbury takes the lead vocal alongside Aoife Anson O’Connell’s harmonies, and the whole thing unwinds with warm fuzz and retro static, over two minutes long but just under three.

The band describes it as their strut song, a song for a younger self, for that moment of waiting and isolation in the hopes of a return. Or maybe just a song about a weird guitar. Reuben Haycocks, Bradbury, O’Connell, and Paddy Murphy have packed out tents at Tramlines, Latitude, and TRUCK this summer, delivered what has become an iconic Later… with Jools Holland performance, and earned an NME cover story. The Guardian called them thrilling. Stereogum put their songs in the best-of-the-week list. Paste called them experts at the art of dynamics. The debut arrives August 21.

“This is our strut song, over two minutes in length but just under three. A song for perhaps a younger self? For that moment of waiting and isolation in the hopes of a return. Or it could just be a song about a weird guitar. Who knows!” — Westside Cowboy

The fall and winter headline tour is the biggest they’ve attempted, with sold-out nights at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town and Manchester’s Albert Hall. A run of record store in-store shows surround the album release this week. Pre-order below.
