Nate Amos releases The Singer in My Band this Friday on Matador Records, and the final single “The Kid With the Crown” is a sprightly, untied-shoelace of a track that follows a group of kids rooting for their favorite demolition derby racer. The video, directed by Spencer Kelly, matches the song’s energy perfectly. Amos describes it as the opposite of “Oh No Now My” — plucked and preserved early, the thing the album needed to breathe.
The album was written on the road while touring with both This Is Lorelei and Water From Your Eyes, ideas incubating without instruments in the back of a van, developing slowly while looking out the window. It came together in the same apartment where Amos produces most of his music, with final touches at his parents’ house in Vermont. His father, bluegrass musician Bob Amos, plays banjo on the title track. His sister Sarah and partner Al Nardo contribute vocals. Everyone else — every instrument, every arrangement — is Amos.
“My dad said it was kind of an ‘on the road beatnik’ album and that reframed it for me. It really is like a collection of chaotic experiences that you have while travelling. They’re also very much little works of fiction with elements of truth to them.” — Nate Amos
The world tour is already well underway with dozens of sold-out dates, and newly announced 2027 EU dates with Liam Parsons have been added through spring. Full routing below.
