Hovvdy’s “You Will Go Far” Is the Sound of a Band That Has Figured Out Exactly Who They Are

After their 2024 double album earned Hovvdy a Best New Album from Pitchfork, Will Taylor and Charlie Martin took a deliberate step back. Big World, their sixth album and the follow-up, was made to be concise and to the point: sessions in Nashville and Asheville in fall 2025, working only from instrumentals rather than finished demos, writing and responding in real time with producer Ben Littlejohn. “The last record felt like such a generous offering,” Martin says. “With this one, we wanted to give the fans something that feels like a shorter but more exciting ride.”

“You Will Go Far” is the third single and arrives with a honeyed video directed by Michael Rees. The Texas duo have spent nine years evolving from slowcore curios to something Pitchfork describes as “waterlogged, would-be pop hits.” Big World leans into emotional ambiguity rather than overt directness, holding up a mirror to the band and sometimes finding pride, sometimes defeat, but always the enormity of the world pushing back.

Hovvdy support Wilco on a run of European dates this August before headlining across the US and Canada in October and November with Emma Ogier and Christian Lee Hutson in tow. Pre-order below.
