Foxwarren Share Eccentric New Video for “Deadhead” Ahead of New Album 2
North American Tour Begins in August
Canadian collective Foxwarren—led by Andy Shauf alongside longtime collaborators Avery Kissick, Darryl Kissick, Dallas Bryson, and Colin Nealis—have released “Deadhead,” the final single and video ahead of their long-awaited sophomore album 2, out this Friday via ANTI-.
Following the shimmering groove of previous single “Yvonne,” “Deadhead” steers the band into stranger territory, packing more ideas into three minutes than most bands fit on an album. With pitch-shifted samples, twangy guitar licks, warped electronics, and even bursts of flute, the track is a genre-defying collage that still maintains the band’s signature warmth. It’s both meticulous and free-spirited—anchored by the refrain “I won’t stop dancing,” which lands like both mantra and mission statement.
The track arrives with a surreal puppet-filled video directed by Joe Cappa, who crafted the visual by dressing handmade puppets in medieval costumes and wigs, letting their personalities guide the story. “When I put the blonde wig and mustache on the main character it really spoke to me,” Cappa said. The puppet of the flute-playing baby features the real legs of Cappa’s 10-month-old son, adding an extra dose of oddball charm.
Foxwarren’s 2 marks a new chapter for the band, abandoning the traditional studio setup in favor of an experimental remote collaboration process. Across four Canadian provinces, the five members shared musical fragments and samples in a cloud folder, which Shauf would then manipulate in Toronto using techniques borrowed from classic hip-hop and musique concrète. Weekly video calls shaped the final arrangements. The result is an album built on trust, curiosity, and creative freedom—a vibrant collage that lives between the past and future.
2 is available this Friday, and the band’s first tour since 2019 kicks off this August with a mix of U.S. and Canadian dates. Foxwarren will also be hosting in-store listening events across North America and Europe through May 30. Full tour dates are below and can be found at foxwarren.hq.
