Diary’s Debut LP Is Out Today. “Spin the Bottle” Pairs Buoyant Jangle-Pop With Occult Imagery and Nails Both

Diary has been one of New York’s best-kept secrets for a few years now, and Spiral Bound (their debut LP, out today on Kanine Records); is the record that should change that. The five-piece was co-produced by Ben Hozie of Bodega and mastered by Kurt Feldman (The Depreciation Guild, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart), and it pulls jangly indie rock, swirling shoegaze, hazy 60s psychedelia, and Madchester’s dance-influenced beats into a sound that feels fully their own. Kevin Bendis, Chris Croarkin, Adam Sachs, Jessica Dye, and Yan Kogan have been building toward this since two EPs on the same label in 2022 and 2024, and the full-length delivers.

New video “Spin the Bottle,” directed by Benny Karas, pairs the song’s buoyant jangle-pop with occult-themed imagery and a playful 80s-inspired vibe. It is immediately charming and slightly unsettling in the best possible way. The band celebrates the release with a hometown show at Union Pool in Brooklyn on September 12.
