Pretty Rude Share Single “The Caller” Debut Album Ripe out today!
Brooklyn-based band Pretty Rude have unveiled their final single as their debut album, Ripe, is out today via SideOneDummy Records. The new track, “The Caller,” arrives with a fittingly disorienting video that mirrors the song’s internal conflict.
Produced by the band and mixed by Jake Sinclair (Weezer’s White Album), “The Caller” blends theatrical bombast with slacker rock grit. Frontman James Palko cites Pulp’s This Is Hardcore and The Rentals as key touchstones, with the track’s soaring chorus and noisy dropouts channeling both drama and detachment.
Lyrically, “The Caller” explores a recurring theme across Ripe—an imagined conversation with a past self, or perhaps a version of the self that sold a dream that hasn’t quite come true. “‘The Caller’ just felt like the best opening to the theme,” Palko says. “Sometimes it’s nice to pass the buck.”
“The Caller” follows earlier singles “Call Me, Ishmael,” “Things I Do,” and “Debbie & Lynn,” all showcasing Pretty Rude’s ability to swing between confessional pop and feedback-laced indie rock.
Ripe will be released digitally and on limited-edition vinyl. Available now HERE.
