The Fire Note’s March Bandcamp feature is here and ready to supply you with 10 more bands you should know about. There is a little bit of something for everyone this month as we get some LA riot grrrl, Phily chillwave, English psychedelic and some heavy sludge from Minneapolis. Till next month – Discover, Support & Share!
Wet Nurse
Los Angeles, California
Hailing from the Sunshine State, Wet Nurse play it fast and bratty. Their cassette-only release features eleven raved-up slices of garage pop-punk that will definitely have you thinking summer’s already here. I’m not fooled though and know it’s still March. So all the better. If catchy songs with female vocals are your thing (and God knows I’m guilty as charged) then this band should be on your radar.

The Barbarones
Sofia, Bulgaria
One doesn’t normally think of Sofia, Bulgaria as a hotbed of indie music but here we have a funky, kind of dance-oriented post-punk four-piece that really shakes and grooves. English is clearly not singer Yavor Petkov’s native language but he does a decent enough job of sounding American – as does the rest of the band. They actually feel more at home on the final tracks of latest LP “The Party” which are, in fact, sung in Bulgarian. Now that’s indie!

More Please
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Philly chillwave artist More Please gives absolutely no information about himself but all I need to know are contained within the four tracks he’s uploaded to the site. They are all great. The production is a little weak but it only adds to the mystery. Solid beats, memorable melodies, great synth sounds and even that really uncool instrument – the guitar – plays a starring role. Who is this guy?

The Wytches
Peterborough, England
The Wytches, are something else. The UK trio are a strange combo of sounds that shouldn’t work well together, but they do. The vocals bring to mind Jack White on his earlier White Stripes days. The haunting psychedelic guitars give way to heavy undercurrent of languid, brooding metal. This is a short 3-track taste of The Wytches brand of “horror-delic “music. Can’t wait to see what these talented lads do on a full LP.

Pony Time
Seattle, Washington
Seattle-based duo Pony Time a fun, fast, and heavy band that might bring to mind a bratty version of Jeff the Brotherhood raised on punk, rockabilly and garage. They may have a heavy sound, but they keep things light with their songs. Titles like Lesbian Mayor, Hippy Shit, and First Thing in the Morning, You and Me (Hard and Heavy) won’t stir up an intellectual debate, they are just meant to keep you rocking. They do it well and should be added to your collection!

Web Of Sunsets
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Web of Sunsets create kaleidoscopic, calming soundscapes accompanied by low-key vocals that drift in and out of the music. Their hazy atmospheric vibe lies somewhere between dream pop and psych-folk, and is perfect for late night listening.

Red Spektor
Stoke-on-Trent, England
This back-to-basics trio will scratch your hard rock itch and send you right back to 1969. Their newest EP was recorded live straight to tape and evokes the bluesy goodness of Hendrix, Cream, Zeppelin and Blue Cheer.

Meggan Carney
Austin, Texas
Meggan Carney is a simple soul of ever present wonder. Taking mixes of folk, indie rock, and gypsy jazz Carney sounds like nothing more than a bedroom project-I also hear slight echoes of Georgiana Starlington too. But, that’s quite the appreciative quality that only adds to Carney’s curiosities. Carney organic approach to harmonies, layering, and instrumental compositing tell the interesting story of a romantically tender young woman. Sometimes that’s all you need.

Vulgaari
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Let me introduce you to Brent Hedtke, Todd Haug, Zack Kinsey, Dinis DeCarvahlo and Pete Campbell otherwise known as Vulgaari-Finnish for vulgar. Taking what they know in terms of doom, stoner, sludge, and power metal, Vulgaari manages to keep things melodic all the while delivering frills of legends such as SLEEP, Electric Wizard, SHRINEBUILDER, and Black Sabbath. It’s heavy, psychedelic sludge with a fantastic twist.

Unwelcome Guests
Buffalo, New York
I always appreciate rock done right. Courtesy of our good friends over at Dirt Cult Records, Buffalo’s Unwelcome Guests have a new record that has the raw energy of Hüsker Dü and the Replacements mixed with melodic punk, duel guitars and plenty of sing-along anthems. They are a band that doesn’t give you much time to breath between tracks and that is the way you want it!
