John Andrews & The Yawns – “Windmill” [Video]

Throughout his years of traveling, John Andrews has documented his life with his home recordings. His first record, Bit By The Fang, found him living in the amish country of Lancaster, PA. His latest record, Bad Posture finds him waving farewell to Pennsylvania & greeting the wooded hills of Barrington, NH. Sitting on top of one of these hills, coined Mt. Misery, is the colonial era farmhouse John now calls his home. This is where Bad Posture was born.
John Andrews & The Yawns have a new music video for “Windmill” off their recently released album, Bad Posture on Woodsist Records. This video cretes the perfect vibe for the record! You can go HERE to order.

Guided By Voices – “5° On The Inside” [Video]

On April 7th, Guided By Voices is set to launch August By Cake. It represents the 100th studio album that Robert Pollard has released since 1986’s Forever Since Breakfast. To put that in perspective, Bob Dylan has released roughly 39 studio albums since 1959. And that includes the Traveling Wilburys!

This first ever GBV double record has multiple treats, as it contains song contributions from all five band members. From ABC we have a video for the opening track “5° On The Inside.” It is a little snapshot of Rockathon (Pollard’s label) and Dayton, OH. You will also catch some throwback to the “The Official Ironmen Rally Song” video from the Under the Bushes Under the Stars (1996) album which just celebrated its 21st birthday.

Leeroy Stagger – “I Want It All” [Video]

We have been following Canadian singer/songwriter Leeroy Stagger for some time, both as a solo artist and as part of the excellent collaboration of Easton Stagger Phillips. Stagger’s new solo album, Love Versus, is out April 7 via True North Records and it represents the first recording made at his home studio in Alberta.

Stagger had Pete Thomas from The Attractions play on the album and Colin Stewart (The New Pornographers, Black Mountain, Dan Mangan), produce it. This album may be his best yet! Check out his great new video for “I Want It All.”

Ryan Adams – Do You Still Love Me? [Video]

Directed and produced by Noah Abrams, and edited by Brook Linder, “Do You Still Love Me?” gives viewers intimate behind-the-scenes glimpses into the creation and recording of the new song from Ryan Adams. The video features live footage from Ryan’s 2016 tour—including airy shots of Red Rocks Amphitheatre—punctuated by fly-on-the-wall scenes of Ryan in the studio.

Prisoner is out February 17th on Pax-Am/Blue Note.

Fred Thomas – Voiceover [Video]

Following the release of his critically-lauded 2015 album All Are Saved, songwriter/producer Fred Thomas entered a period of enormous transition. He quit his job, got married and moved to Canada, all between multiple tours that ran the spectrum from sold out opening slots to sleeping in the car after empty gigs.

At the end of yet another tour he returned to Athens, Georgia, to again work with producer Drew Vandenberg (of Montreal, Mothers) on an album aiming to encapsulate the nonstop changes that had sprung out of this phase of his life.

Naturally, this record is named Changer and is out now on Polyviyl Records.

Marching Church – “2016” [Video]

Over the past weekend, Marching Church released the video for their song, “2016,” off new album, Telling It Like It Is. Elias Bender Rønnenfelt describes the video: “We have reached the very tail end of 2016, the year which also spawns the title of this song. This is our attempt at a testament. Marching Church burns its calendar in a feeble and useless longing to undo the past 365 days marked by consistent atrocity, wronging and slaughter, while also taking us through recent ocular memories from the orient and its dirty pearls.”

This is an album that we still have in the review queue and one TFN recommends checking out. Marching Church also has a string of tour dates over the next few months, which you can check below, so if you are up for a solid live show get it on your calendar!

Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings – “Please Come Home For Christmas” [Video]

The video for Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings’ rendition of “Please Come Home For Christmas” from the holiday album It’s A Holiday Soul Party! was just released. Completed and planned for release before Sharon Jones lost her battle with pancreatic cancer, the song’s heartbreaking sentiment now feels more powerful. Watch the stop-motion claymation video, made in the style of holiday classics like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

This past week saw family, friends and fans gather in Brooklyn, NY and Augusta, GA to celebrate Sharon at memorials in each of her home cities. All fans will soon be able to celebrate Sharon’s strength, courage, humor and talent at home too. The critically acclaimed documentary Miss Sharon Jones! will be available worldwide on Netflix beginning January 7.

The Gift feat. Brian Eno – “Love Without Violins” [Video]

If you get Brian Eno to work on your album I would say you are doing quite well. The Gift have done just that and return with a new single, “Love Without Violins,” featuring Eno, who co-wrote, produced and sings on the track.
The single offers the first taste of The Gift’s newly developed experimental sound with Eno. And, with a new album in the pipeline for next spring, they’re set to be heard in 2017.

OK Go – “The One Moment” [Video]

“The One Moment,” OK Go’s new video, is incredibly intricate and elaborate, but it only took one moment to shoot. Directed by OK Go singer Damian Kulash, Jr., “The One Moment” has short periods of real time at the beginning and end, but the bulk of it was captured in a mere 4.2 seconds. During the film, band members create and interact with hundreds of synchronized, high-speed events, choreographed to the cathartic song about the most important moments in life, those moments when everything changes. Coming at this time of great change around the world, the song underscores the opportunity and need for people to step up, step out and make a difference.

If this video would have been released during the MTV days, OK Go would be an unstoppable phenomenon as a band right now just based on the incredible detail within “The One Moment.” Even if you are not a big fan of OK Go or the song, you should check out the video becuase it is a true art.

The group also has this new video for the title track and it gives you a good sense of their upbeat jangle. Dancing in the bar and the beach has never hurt anyone!

Brother O’ Brother – “Wolf In Sheeps Clothing” [Video]

Based out Indianapolis, Indiana, Brother O’ Brother has toured heavily to the tune of about 100 shows in 2016 including Festivals, played at both Third Man Records locations, and opened for AWOLNATION, Kongos, and Blue October among larger nationals.

This is their new video for “Wolf In Sheeps Clothing,” which you can find on their excellent 2015 record Show Pony. The band always has some great looking vinyl pressings with quality labels like Fonoflo, Shedhouse, Grimtale, Romanus, and Jett Plastic so make sure to search them out. The band is set to release a new full length LP in 2017.

Until then – check out the new video and heed caution – never answer a business card left on your car at a gas station!
