King Tuff Gets Back on the Train — Loud, Loose, and Loving Every Minute

King Tuff is back in full rock mode. Kyle Thomas just announced his new album MOO, out March 27 via his freshly launched MUP Records, and it comes with a snarling new single, “Twisted On A Train,” that feels like a direct line to his wilder instincts.

After a few years wandering through softer, more reflective territory on Smalltown Stardust and The Other, Thomas found himself missing the rush. The kind you only get from turning up an amp, trusting your gut, and letting the song fall where it may. So he moved back to Vermont, dusted off the same Tascam 388 tape machine he used on King Tuff Was Dead, grabbed his old blue Gibson SG, and hit record.

“Twisted On A Train” was the first track laid down, and it shows. The song was written and recorded in a few hours, fueled by an overnight train ride from Tucson to Los Angeles, a weed gummy, and a sleepless night spent spiraling in the observation car. It sounds immediate, restless, and alive in a way only tape can capture. The accompanying video was directed, shot, and edited by Thomas himself, keeping everything raw and personal.

MOO is mostly a love record, though not the polished kind. These are love songs that sweat, wobble, and grin through busted speakers. Even the oddball tracks about rodents or getting an oil change circle back to the same place. Joy. Connection. Motion. Thomas has said he stopped worrying about mistakes entirely, embracing grit and grime as part of the thrill. Rock and roll, in his view, should feel like it crawled out of somewhere questionable and dared you to follow.

This album feels like a reset. A return to rock. A return to Vermont. A return to the version of King Tuff that thrives on noise, instinct, and fun. No overthinking. No polish for polish’s sake. Just songs that move fast and hit hard.

MOO is out March 27. Pre order the album here: https://kingtuff.ffm.to/moo

King Tuff is also taking the new material on the road with a full North American tour this spring.
