Spike F*ck Surfaces With a Debut Album and a Proof of Life Statement on “All by Myself”

Spike F*ck has existed for a decade more as a messy myth than an active artist. His Smackwave EP on Partisan became a cult classic. Then came the unexpected visibility: underground warehouse parties, Rick Owens, editorial photoshoots, and interviews in which he gave unrelenting details of his life. Then he disappeared. Bootleg uploads accumulated. Comments on old YouTube videos speculated wildly. The most sincere kept the myth alive. He recently returned with three sold-out LA shows and two sold-out nights in New York, and today he signs to Sacred Bones and announces evidence, his debut album, out October 2.

Written and recorded in three months with producer Adam Hyde, evidence is not an explanation or a tell-all. It doesn’t rationalize the absence. It is what it says it is: proof. Lead single “All by Myself” fuses new wave, glam, and soul into something that feels simultaneously blasé, vulnerable, and manic. The vocal performance oscillates between registers in ways that are hard to pin down. The video sends a war hero through an absurdist spiritual transformation involving purgatory, heaven, hell, and a mushroom that talks. It raises more questions than it answers, which is exactly the point.

Citing Pere Ubu, New York Dolls, The Temptations, and Bettye Swann as key influences, the record is a rush to listen to, as if tagging along on a particularly wild night out. An Australian tour runs through October, followed by a European and UK run through November. Pre-order below.
