Wednesday Bleed Out a New Anthem with “Bitter Everyday”

Wednesday are back at it with “Bitter Everyday,” a scorching new single from their upcoming album Bleeds (out Sept 19 via Dead Oceans). The track drops with a Ben Turok–directed video filmed at Lake Santeelah in Western North Carolina, capturing the raw, haunted energy of the story that inspired it.

Karly Hartzman explains that the song comes from a late-night encounter on her porch in 2019—when a stranger with an unforgettable voice sang a song for her bandmates. Weeks later, Hartzman found the same woman’s face on a wanted flyer. The chorus nods to Iris DeMent’s “Easy’s Gettin’ Harder Everyday,” grounding the track in both personal memory and Southern Gothic surrealism.

Bleeds feels like Wednesday’s defining statement: a collision of noise, twang, and sharp-edged storytelling. Recorded at Drop of Sun in Asheville with longtime producer Alex Farrar, the band (Xandy Chelmis, Alan Miller, Ethan Baechtold, Jake “MJ” Lenderman) fine-tune their balance of country confessionals and blistering distortion. Hartzman calls it the “quintessential Creek Rock album,” a spiritual successor to Rat Saw God that sharpens their voice without sanding off the rough edges.

The album’s earlier singles—“Elderberry Wine,” “Wound Up Here (By Holdin On),” and “Pick Up That Knife”—already earned raves from critics. With “Bitter Everyday,” Wednesday prove once again they’re not just holding the torch for modern indie rock—they’re setting the whole stage ablaze.T ickets are available now via wednesday.band.
