Fire Track: Idlewild – “Stay Out Of Place”

Idlewild Are Back with Self-Titled Album and New Single “Stay Out of Place”

Scottish legends Idlewild have officially returned. Their first album in six years, simply titled Idlewild, lands October 3rd via V2 Records — and it’s shaping up to be something special.

To kick things off, the band just dropped “Stay Out of Place,” a widescreen burst of melodic energy that feels like a fresh chapter and a love letter to their past all at once. It’s warm, immediate, and unmistakably them. The track debuted on Steve Lamacq’s BBC 6 Music show and sets the tone for what frontman Roddy Woomble calls a reflection on “the many versions of ourselves” — both as people and as a band.

Produced by guitarist Rod Jones and recorded between Post Electric Studios in Edinburgh and a library on the Isle of Iona (yes, really), the record sees Idlewild pulling together every thread from their nearly 30-year run. From punk-fueled beginnings (Hope Is Important, 100 Broken Windows) to soaring, radio-ready anthems (The Remote Part) and the experimental turns of Interview Music, this is the sound of a band confidently revisiting their roots — and pushing forward with purpose.

“We weren’t being nostalgic,” says Woomble. “We were realizing that we actually have a sound — and it deserves to be celebrated.”

Idlewild drops October 3rd on CD, black vinyl, and two limited colored LPs. Pre-orders are open now. Check out “Stay Out of Place” and get ready for one of the most exciting returns of the year.
