Fire Track: Sloan – “Live Forever”

| |

Sloan are back with Based on the Best Seller, their 14th (!!) studio album, dropping September 26 on Yep Roc—and it’s shaping up to be another classic in the making.

The first taste is here: “Live Forever,” a jangly, harmony-loaded power pop gem that sounds like vintage Sloan with a sci-fi twist. Co-written by all four members—Jay, Chris, Patrick, and Andrew—the track explores what it might really mean to live forever. Spoiler: it’s not all glory and eternal youth. As Chris Murphy quips, “Do you want to feel 80 for hundreds of years?” There’s sharp humor and a wink of ’90s nostalgia baked into the tune, and it’s catchy as hell.

Based on the Best Seller finds the band still doing what they do best—four songwriters trading ideas, styles, and instruments, making it all blend like no one else can. It’s another reminder why Sloan remains one of the most respected and longest-running bands in Canadian rock history.
