TFN has an excellent Fire Track Premiere today from LA four-piece Reckling! “Verbalize” showcases Reckling’s somewhat 70’s classic LA rock sound that is mixed with a mid 90’s alternative twist. Bands like Magnapop and The Muffs come to mind along with some Courtney Love like angst in the vocals as lead singer Kelsey Reckling has a standout persona.
Even with those classic undertones, Reckling easily fits in with today’s scene as they have a similar fire to bands like Momma, Death Valley Girls and Bleached. Kelsey pushes her emotions to the forefront on this track as her unrestrained spirit hoovers just above the frenetic blaze of guitar and drums from her bandmates. “Verbalize” is a stand out track that should be played with some volume.
Reckling has a solid resume as they are made up of members from FIDLAR, Together Pangea, and Paramore/HalfNoise. “Verbalize,” is officially out tomorrow and it is the second single off Reckling’s forthcoming EP entitled Human Nature (out 8/12). Speaking on their single “Verbalize”, lead songwriter/vocalist Kelsey Reckling wrote:
“I think this is my favorite song I’ve ever written. Most of my songs are written retrospectively, often reflecting back on a specific time or feeling. But with ‘Verbalize,’ it was written in real time during the actual moment, in the middle of all the feelings — and was written as a way of sorting through things.
It’s kind of like vomiting…when you have that bad feeling in your stomach but you’re not at the point of having to throw up yet, but you know that when you do throw up, you’re gonna feel so much better. Sometimes, you have to exorcise feelings from your body by way of song.”
