Who: Charles Francis Moothart, aka CFM, continues to branch out on his second solo LP.

Sound: Dichotomy Desaturated is a bit of a departure from Moothart’s past work with Ty Segall, Mikal Cronin and Fuzz.

TFN Final Take: Charles Francis Moothart’s second solo LP as CFM is an excellent sophomore effort. Fans of his past endeavors with Ty Segall, Mikal Cronin, and Fuzz should welcome this record with open, stoner arms.

Dichotomy Desaturated is just loaded with psychedelic rock magic similar to contemporaries Meatbodies and Wand but also shares some loose, lo-fi jangle rock vibes that remind me of Sebadoh III. Moothart dabbles in some melancholic psych with album opener, “Dichotomy” as well as with the track “Desaturated” but for the most part, this LP is about mind expanding riffs and creating an exhilarating blend of garage/stoner/punk rock.

Each track on Dichotomy Desaturated is a twisted, ever-shifting tale. Moothart is not afraid to test the bounds of musical structure and ends up creating a very pleasing album via a less than conventional approach to how to rock your socks off. Highly recommended.
