PREMIERE: Spoils System – “Subtle Amends”
New single from The Nope Out (out July 11 via Sweet Cheetah Records)

Hudson Valley, New York band Spoils System rev up the engine on their latest single, “Subtle Amends”—a steady-burn, mid-tempo indie rock gem that hits with heart and just the right amount of grit. It’s the kind of track made for long drives and late-night reflection, full of layered guitars, earnest vocals, and a low-key intensity that sneaks up on you.

The band—Dan Coutant (vocals/guitar/keys), Sean Hansen (guitar/vocals), David Fateman (bass), and Mark Frankel (drums)—bring their A-game here, balancing atmosphere and melody like they’ve been doing it for decades (because, well… they kinda have). Dan and Sean both cut their teeth in early 2000s emo outfit Joshua, who rolled with The Get Up Kids, At the Drive-In, and Jets To Brazil. Sean also helped shape The Ataris’ Welcome the Night, so that sense of emotional weight wrapped in tight songwriting? It’s no accident.

The Nope Out finds the band leveling up with a swirl of shoegaze shimmer and power-pop punch—think Swervedriver meets Death Cab with a hint of Blinker the Star sparkle. And while “Subtle Amends” doesn’t shout, it resonates. Big time.

Engineered by a dream team—J. Robbins, Tom Hill (Bookhouse Studio, London), and Paul Carabello—”Subtle Amends” hits streaming platforms tomorrow and the album drops July 11. If this track is any clue, Spoils System is quietly carving out something special.
