Fire Track: Big Thief – “Incomprehensible”

Big Thief Announce New Album Double Infinity, Drop Lead Single “Incomprehensible”

Big Thief are back with big news: their sixth album Double Infinity lands September 5th via 4AD, and it kicks off with the gorgeous, free-floating opener “Incomprehensible.” The new record follows 2022’s sprawling, Grammy-nominated Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You — but this time, the band leans even deeper into the moment.

Tracked live over three icy weeks at the legendary Power Station in NYC, Double Infinity feels born out of warmth and spontaneity. With longtime producer Dom Monks at the helm and a rotating crew of collaborators (including Laraaji, June McDoom, and Joshua Crumbly), the sessions played out like musical marathons — nine-hour days, no overdubs, and raw, in-the-room magic.

“Incomprehensible” opens the record with a hushed ache, but grows into something quietly epic. Adrianne Lenker sings of aging, wonder, and surrender: “Let gravity be my sculptor, let the wind do my hair.” It’s a poetic reminder that growing older is just another part of the mystery — and beauty — of sticking around.

Double Infinity will be available digitally, on CD, cassette, black vinyl, and in limited runs of green and “Sparkle Universe” wax.
