Whitney Turn Up the Drama and Soul on “Evangeline” Featuring Madison Cunningham
Whitney just dropped a new single, “Evangeline,” featuring the always-mesmerizing Madison Cunningham. The song is their final teaser before the Chicago duo releases Small Talk—their fourth and most emotionally charged album yet—out this Friday, November 7 via AWAL.
“Evangeline” is a cinematic heartbreaker, filled with sweeping strings, thunderous drums, and the kind of tender back-and-forth vocals that make you want to sit with it for a while. Julien Ehrlich and Max Kakacek lean into the drama here, layering rich arrangements that showcase the duo’s growth without losing their signature warmth. Cunningham’s crystalline harmonies add an entirely new dimension, making this track one of the most breathtaking moments in Whitney’s catalog.
Ehrlich admits the song took a long time to find its shape, landing only once they “leaned into the theatricality.” Cunningham calls the collaboration “one of the easiest, most joyful sessions,” and you can hear that chemistry—two voices locked in perfect orbit.
After nearly a decade together, the pair behind Whitney sound more confident than ever. Small Talk promises to be a soulful, vibrant return to the kind of heartfelt songwriting that made Light Upon the Lake a modern indie classic. Expect lush melodies, introspective lyrics, and the kind of quiet magic that lingers long after the last note.
Small Talk is available for pre-order now on “Crimson Moon” and “Bone” vinyl HERE.
