Wednesday Share Haunting New Track “Wound Up Here (By Holdin On)” + Announce New Album Bleeds
North Carolina’s Wednesday are back with Bleeds, their hotly anticipated follow-up to the Headphone Approved and TFN AOTY Rat Saw God, landing September 19 on Dead Oceans. The new record tightens the screws on everything the band’s been building toward—gritty storytelling, Southern flair, and a fearless sense of noise-meets-melody tension. It’s raw, poetic, and gloriously alive.
Their latest single, “Wound Up Here (By Holdin On),” arrives today with a gripping video directed by Joriel Cura. It’s a slow-burn stunner that builds from eerie reflection to full-on sonic wreckage. Karly Hartzman pulls from a real-life story told by a friend who pulled a body from a creek in West Virginia—dark stuff, sure, but Hartzman spins it into something strangely beautiful. The title line itself is lifted from a poetry book by Evan Gray, reimagined here into a song that crawls under your skin.
Bleeds is shaping up to be the band’s most confident and dialed-in effort yet. Hartzman calls it the “quintessential Wednesday Creek Rock album,” and if that phrase means anything to you, you’re already sold. It’s soaked in literary grit and small-town ghosts, all stitched together with noise, twang, and the kind of indie-rock catharsis that hits like a late-night drive gone off the rails.
Once again produced by Alex Farrar at Drop of Sun in Asheville, Bleeds pulls no punches. From the outlaw swagger of “Phish Pepsi” to the slow-burning menace of “Carolina Murder Suicide,” it’s a record built on details that feel lived-in and loud.
Wednesday will hit the road this fall in support of Bleeds, with Friendship joining them out west and Daffo on the east coast leg. Dates below.
