Tim Easton
Ammunition
New West Records [2006]

If you’ve been following Tim Easton’s career, you’ll recognize right away that Ammunition marks a shift. It’s more intimate, more reflective, and more stripped-down than his previous three records. The Ohio native wanted a set he could play solo or with a band, and that flexibility comes through in the relaxed, organic feel of the album.
Many of the 13 songs were penned while Easton was on the road, visiting places like the Czech Republic, Alaska, and the Netherlands. That global wanderlust lends the album a sense of openness, even in its quieter moments. He’s joined by some serious guests too—Lucinda Williams adds emotional heft to “Back In Pain,” Tift Merritt lends her voice to the radio-ready “Next To You,” and Gary Louris (The Jayhawks) co-produces and provides harmonies throughout. Ammunition doesn’t rush. It invites you to settle in, listen closely, and appreciate the small, well-crafted moments that define a thoughtful singer-songwriter at work.
