Mdou Moctar – “Taliat” [Video]

| |

We already told you about the fantastic new Headphone Approved album from Mdou Moctar titled Afrique Victime. If you missed it make sure you circle back around to the review but only after you watch the second video from the album “Taliat’”

The video follows Moctar through his town and also shows the English translation to the track which you will see and hear “Oh poor girl / She gave him her heart and he broke it / I pray to God to never experience unrequited love and the pain of a broken heart” as he sings in Tamasheq over lyrical electric guitar runs and ecstatic rhythm.

“Taliat means woman,” Moctar says. “In our community, women are queens, they have a lot of power, that why I use the term taliat to talk about them. A woman in the Tuareg community has to be protected, but she also has to be treated as equal.”

With touring coming back to all cities Mdou Moctar is one I would put on your list to check out as he is playing a multitude of small venues and Bonnaroo. You can see the dates below.
