Matt And Kim
New Glow
Harvest Records [2015]

Album Review: Matt and Kim’s fifth studio album, New Glow, serves up the expected energy-infused pop music that the duo has down to a tee. Known as a spectacularly frenetic live act, Matt and Kim lose some of that frenzy in the studio on this album. Minimalist and reliant on repetition it is obvious which songs hit the mark (“Stirred Up”) and which don’t (“Hoodie On”). It’s difficult to dislike an artist who is so eager to please, though. That desire is so evident – Matt and Kim are trying so hard – that it makes even the flatter songs worth a listen.

I appreciate being able to write for The Fire Note, as it gives me an excuse to keep up with what's happening in new music.
By day I am a dad and a psychologist; I often use music as a way to connect with both my kids and my clients. One of my proudest moments as a father was when my 12-year-old daughter told me of her undying love for Radiohead.
