Fire Drill Album Review: Sing Into My Mouth is the second release on Sam Beam’s Black Cricket Recording Co., and though a collaborative covers record may seem like an odd departure for Iron & Wine, that’s only the case if you ignore other covers Beam has produced over the years (The Flaming Lips, The Postal Service, etc.) or the collaborations he’s done with Calexico. Band of Horses frontman Ben Bridwell is an effective partner in crime, and their voices blend well together over the course of this twelve track set that features songs made famous by artists as disparate as Talking Heads, David Gilmour, John (and JJ) Cale, Bonnie Raitt, Spiritualized, and Sade. It’s a lightweight but fun collection that holds together surprisingly well, and fans of Beam and/or Bridwell will find plenty to enjoy.
