Frankie And The Witch Fingers
Monsters Eating People Eating Monsters . . .

Who: I count Frankie and the Witch Fingers as having one of the coolest stories in rock n’ roll right now: Release, ZAM, one of the best albums of your career, gain great attention with power packed live shows, open for rock legends ZZ Top and Cheap Trick, gain support of new label, and gain a new member, Nikki Pickle of the Death Valley Girls.
Sound: Frankie has always swung hard at the psychedelic. This album is no different. MEPEM dabbles in a lot: samba shuffles, muscular-dance rock, desert rock, and then some.
TFN Final Take: Frankie and the Witch Fingers released one of TFN favorite albums last year. ZAM was a bubbling cauldron of perfect riffs and surprising dynamics. Monsters Eating People Eating Monsters… is the battering-ram that knocks down the castle gate.
Frankie wastes no time and starts the album with “Activate.” This barn-burner starts the album off with what feels like a samba, punk flare. “Reaper” takes the album into FUZZ territory with 10 ton arena rock. With having tour mates such as Osees it’s no surprise that “Where’s Your Reality?” takes major cues. “Simulator” takes its piston riff and stabs over and over again. “Cavehead” again takes a psychedelic samba that bubbles like a molten tar pit. “MEPEM” isn’t “Head Collector” but it does end the album in its own special way. The track lumbers in like a ogre and then blisters its’ way into a long lost Mars Volta jam.
The biggest thing against Frankie and the Witch Fingers’ Monsters Eating People Eating Monsters… is the release or ZAM. ZAM kept things powerful, surprising, and emotional all the way up until the end. Monsters Eating People Eating Monsters… is a straight forward rocker that you’ll never not have fun with listen after listen.
