Father John Misty – “Mr. Tillman” [Video]
Watch Father John Misty encounter a strange hotel check-in in the official video for “Mr. Tillman,” co-directed by Jeff Desom (Health, Hauskcha) & Carlos Lopez Estrada (Clipping, Blindspotting) [link here]. The single is from God’s Favorite Customer, his fourth album worldwide on June 1st, 2018 through Sub Pop, with the exception of Europe through Bella Union.
Chastity – “Children” [Video]
Chastity (aka Brandon Williams) has released the politically charged video for “Children,” taken from the upcoming album Death Lust, to be released Friday, July 13th via Captured Tracks. You can pre-order a copy of the album HERE.
Chastity is a world of its own from the mind of Brandon Williams. Reflecting the working class background of Whitby, Ontario, Chastity’s songs are charged with the ethos of archetypal youth on the fringe. A project more aptly characterized by its intentions than specific sound or medium, Chastity stands to confront the struggles of those existing in the unseen, often silenced periphery. It is an artifact of youth culture constantly working to form community, bridging isolation with collectivity.
Death Lust follows the plot of suffering to survival. The album begins on a tortured note with ‘Come’ and builds toward the plummeting finale of ‘Chains’, evolving from start to finish in a crescendo of severity. Chastity explains, “Death Lust is about growing up death obsessed. It’s about the pain that it takes but the capacity that we have to overcome.”
Cut Worms – “Cash For Gold” [Video]
New York-based Max Clarke will release Hollow Ground, his debut album as Cut Worms, on May 4th via Jagjaguwar. This new video for “Cash For Gold” was directed by Elizabeth Skadden.
This track follows Cut Worms style of storytelling and the influence of the more simple sounds of the 50s/60s. It is easy to hear past groups here like The Everly Brothers or the Finn Brothers (Crowded House) but Cut Worms nicely fits in with modern artists such as The Tallest Man In The World, S. Carey or Michael Rault.

Liz Phair – “Stratford-On-Guy (Newly Digitized HD)” [Video]
2018 marks the 25th anniversary of Liz Phair’s classic album Exile In Guyville and on May 4th, Matador Records will release Girly-Sound To Guyville: The 25th Anniversary Box Set. The upcoming release is an extensive, limited edition 7-LP or 3-CD box set to celebrate the anniversary of her classic album. The box set contains the first official restored audio of all three 1991 Girly-Sound tapes from the original cassettes. It also contains the 1993 Exile In Guyville album remastered by Emily Lazar at The Lodge. You can pick up a copy HERE.
Here is the original video for “Stratford-On-Guy,” which has been newly digitized and upscaled to HD, directed by Liz Phair herself! Liz’s first-hand account of how the “Stratford-On-Guy” video came to be:
“We were in talks with labels about the second record – Matador was being courted by Atlantic – and Danny Goldberg came backstage to meet me. I told him about my idea for the next video – ‘Stratford-On-Guy’ – explaining that we were stalled due to budget constraints. He asked ‘what do you need?’ I said, ‘a private plane to fly over downtown LA and get footage at night.’ I wanted to shoot the electric veins of the city. He just said, ‘done!’ It was one of those real rock star moments.
So my husband, his friend Michael Mees, who was the DP, and I went up in this 8 seater Lear Jet and got the greatest footage ever. We were literally flying sideways so Michael could shoot straight down over the rooftops of all the buildings. We were executing these tight turns above the skyscrapers and the G force was incredible. You could feel your internal organs dragging to the other side of your body cavity. Michael was using this really heavy camera and Jim, my husband, had to hold onto him as we shot. The lens of the camera was pressing down against the window pane and I remember Michael nervously joking – and not really in jest – that the glass beneath him better hold. It was so fun. We made two approaches into the airport so we could capture that fantastic runway lighting. Those images are etched in my memory forever. I seem to recall I somehow wedged my head up between the pilots like a dog peering over the backseat so I could see that awesome 180* cockpit view, too. Good times!”
Connections – “Love Me Still” [Video]
Check out the new video from Connections which features the Los Angeles based comedy group The Dickheads. “Love Me Still” is from the Connections forthcoming album Foreign Affairs via Trouble In Mind Records on May 11.
Ladytron – “The Animals” [Video]
Liverpool’s synth-shoegaze quartet, Ladytron are back and have released this short film for “The Animals,” their first single in seven years. Directed by Fernando Nogari, the short film is a love letter to São Paulo that follows a group of young people on a sensory, violent, and joyous trip through the megalopolis’ underworld, creating a snapshot of Brazil’s dark, contemporary moment where shifting mores regarding culture, gender, spirituality, and identity collide.
A second single will follow in the summer, followed in the fall by a new album, both available for pre-order as limited deluxe editions via Pledge Music HERE.
Snow Patrol – “Don’t Give In” [Video]
Snow Patrol has premiered “Don’t Give In,” the lead single from Wildness, their first record in seven years. Said lead singer and songwriter, Gary Lightbody about the song: “‘Don’t Give In” was originally about a friend going through a tough time but the more I wrote into it I realized it was about me and the struggle of making the album – which took 5 years and was not easy – coupled with the struggle with depression I’ve had since I was a kid, so it has become the talisman of the album. The song that became a self-fulfilling prophecy.”
Wildness is out May 25th via Republic Records. You can pre-order a copy HERE.
Failure – “Dark Speed” [Video]
Here is the first video from the EP In The Future, from the current EP and forthcoming fifth Failure album. The video features David Dastmalchian (Ant-Man, Blade Runner 2049) and was directed by Ken Andrews.

The Black Angels – “Half Believing” [Video]
Austin psych-rockers, The Black Angels have shared a music video for “Half Believing.” This is the lead track off their latest record Death Song out now on Partisan Records.
Guitarist Christian Bland says of the clip; “The idea was to create a mini ‘Twilight Zone’ episode, where a man’s life flashes before his very eyes before he enters eternity. Where he ends up, no one knows.”
Buffalo Killers – “Parachute” [Video]
The eighth album from Buffalo Killers, Alive and Well in Ohio, was recorded at their Howler Hills Farm analog studio on their own terms. Equipped with only the knowledge they had gained over the years, the band crafted this album without rules or pressure.
Today, we get to see the album’s first video for the track “Parachute.” The group travelled the short trip North to Dayton as friend Chad Wells directed. As for the effort in making the video –
Andy Gabbard simply said “We played the song about three or four times on the roof of a bike park, and froze our asses off and that was that.”

The She’s – “Sorry” [Video]
San Francisco’s The She’s have a new music video for their single, “Sorry.” Hannah Valente (vocals, guitar) says, “The song and video are about the fragility of relationships. The She’s forthcoming sophomore album, “all female rock and roll quartet”, is to be released November 17th via Empty Cellar Records (The Cairo Gang, Cool Ghouls, The Sandwitches, Magic Trick). The four piece, who have been playing music together since elementary school, self-produced the 12-song album with counsel and encouragement from tUne-Yards’ Merrill Garbus.

The Friday Fire Track: The Breeders – “Wait In The Car” [Video]
Anytime a band comes back together it is news. The quartet of Kim and Kelley Deal, Josephine Wiggs and Jim Macpherson, better known as The Breeders, made that happen in 2013 for the 20th anniversary of their 1993 classic Last Splash. Now, the Dayton band has a killer new two-minute track in “Wait In The Car” which proves they still have it. All we really need to say is “Meow, Meow, Meow, Meow.” The track is fun, energetic and ultra-catchy.
No news on an album yet but this single is part of a series of 7″ releases via 4AD. One will be available at the band’s upcoming tour dates, (pressed on orange vinyl, featuring a cover of Amon Düül II’s 1970 track “Archangel’s Thunderbird”, recorded with Steve Albini in Chicago). Another will be available exclusively at select independent record stores from October 27th (pressed on yellow vinyl and including a cover of Devo’s “Gates of Steel”). Details of a third version (featuring Kim’s reimagining of Mike Nesmith’s ‘Joanne’ and pressed on red vinyl) will be announced later in the year. Each version is limited to 1500 copies worldwide.

They’ll also play a warm-up show for the tour in Newport, KY on October 10th and support Arcade Fire on two dates in St. Paul, MN and Chicago, IL at the end of the month, just before their US tour starts. Guided By Voices – “Low Flying Perfection” [Video]
Here is a new video from Guided By Voices for “Low Flying Perfection.” The song is off their recently released and Headphone Approved LP How Do You Spell Heaven.
The video was directed by Sean Cannon and Chris Witzke. Cannon, host of WFPK’s The Guestlist radio show / podcast from Louisville, states: “The narrative for this video hit me all at once, with most of the scenes fully formed in my head. You don’t always get that lucky. I realized pretty quickly the visuals would match the intensity, immediacy, and intimacy of “Low Flying Perfection.” We rushed out to the woods armed with nothing but a camera and an ax. Two hours later, Chris and I captured this story.”

PUP – “Old Wounds” [Video]
Toronto-based punks PUP are well known for one-upping themselves. PUP release their latest for “Old Wounds,” a totally immersive, choose your adventure style video. That is right – sort of a choose your adventure video –
cool!
“This video is one of the craziest things we’ve done as a band,” laughs singer/guitarist Stefan Babcock. “We actually each wrote our own individual storylines,” Babcock continues. “From Steve’s sports obsession to Zack’s weirdo sci-fi brain soup, and Nestor’s unnatural love of pizza to me going off the deep end in the wilderness… this video is pure PUP.”
Video Premiere: Romeo Dance Cheetah – “The Air Guitar Song”
At some point, we have all done it. A sweet rhythmic head toss, a powerful pelvic thrust, a double handed slide complete with a power chord strum in perfect synchronization. That is right – the AIR GUITAR!
Today’s video premiere of “The Air Guitar Song” from Romeo Dance Cheetah takes things to an entire different level because he is the real deal and the 2010 US National Champion of air guitar. In fact, the video today features some of the best air guitars in the world today, which hold multiple national and world titles. You want some official air guitar? Just watch the video now!
How do you achieve this guitar greatness?! Well, the World Air Guitar Competition is taking place this weekend in Oulu, Finland. Also, “The Air Guitar Song” video will be seen by all during the Oulu Finland Music Video Festival which runs in conjunction with the competition. It is going to be a great weekend!
Now, Romeo Dance Cheetah is not stopping with this video. He is launching his music career with the debut release of his comedy rock album, Magnificent Man on October 27th. Think Darkness drinks with Ween and then gets totally crazy with Tenacious D. Yep – that is Romeo Dance Cheetah!
Clearly, TFN wishes Romeo and all the competitors luck this weekend as the purpose of the Air Guitar World Championships is to promote world peace. According to the ideology of the Air Guitar – “Wars would end, climate change stop and all bad things disappear, if all the people in the world played the Air Guitar. This is why the whole universe is invited to play the Air Guitar for world peace at the end of the competition.”
With that said, TFN completely endorses giving it your best Hendrix, Prince or Slash right now. World peace and a Flying V can’t be stopped!
