Strange Lot Keep Building Steam With the Kaleidoscopic “Go Have a Dream”
Strange Lot have been moving fast. After rebuilding the project from scratch in 2022, recording 30 demos solo, landing Alex Maas of The Black Angels as producer, and finishing a debut album mixed by Jim Eno of Spoon and mastered by Howie Weinberg, Dominic Mena and the Austin band spent this spring on tour supporting Melody’s Echo Chamber across the US. Now they share “Go Have a Dream,” the second preview of Strange Lot, their debut LP out August 14 on Greenway Records.
Where lead single “Nobody Seems to Do the Math” hit with fuzzed-out directness, “Go Have a Dream” opens up into something more kaleidoscopic and atmospheric — the shoegaze-leaning haze that runs through the album’s DNA given more room to breathe. The video was directed by Stellina Stampouli. Strange Lot’s resume now includes direct support slots for The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Kikagaku Moyo, and a headlining stage appearance at Levitation Festival in Austin. The current lineup of Mena, Cameron Martin on drums, Levi Murray on bass, and Jason Desiderio on synthesizer and guitar is clearly hitting its stride.
