“Pillman’s Got A Gun” – Jobber Drops a Heavy-Hitting Wrestling Ballad You Didn’t See Coming
NYC’s fuzz rock heavyweights Jobber are back in the ring, and this time they’re swinging for the fences with “Pillman’s Got A Gun,” the latest preview from their debut album Jobber To The Stars (out August 22 via Exploding In Sound Records). Equal parts muscle and melody, the track takes the classic power ballad blueprint and smashes it with walls of distortion—paying wild-eyed homage to one of pro wrestling’s most unpredictable legends.
The new single follows “Nightmare,” which already turned heads at Stereogum, Paste, BrooklynVegan, and more. Frontwoman Meizner says the song grew from her fascination with Brian Pillman’s life, career, and chaotic persona—plus the dangerous game of constantly trying to top your own legend.
The video, directed by Brittany Reeber, goes full shrine-mode: production designer Jayne Clark packs it with sly wrestling Easter eggs, from Hart Foundation teddy bears to Pillman’s infamous “screw you” shades, all wrapped in an eerie, theatrical glow.
Recorded with Justin Pizzoferrato (Dinosaur Jr, Body/Head, Pixies) and Aron Kobayashi Ritch (Momma, Hotline TNT, Squirrel Flower), Jobber To The Stars is eleven tracks of crushing riffs and hooky choruses that tackle life’s body slams—from the absurd theatrics of the squared circle to the grind of everyday survival under capitalism. If their 2022 debut EP Hell In A Cell was a statement of intent, this full-length is a steel chair to the head.
