You absolutely cannot keep me away from the type of indie infection that Gambier, Ohio’s SPORTS plays. “Saturday” is an explosive tune that reminds me of every great little song from bands that never received the proper exposure. The foot tapping number is a great introduction to the group’s sophomore record, All of Something, which is due out October 30 via Father/Daughter Records.
At 1:13 in length, SPORTS don’t waste any time to hook you in, which starts with the somewhat strained vocals of Carmen Perry letting the track have everything she has to give. This energy kicks the crap out of you and makes you want to hear more, especially after her bandmates swoop in below with some backing vocals. All of Something was recorded in Philadelphia with producer and musician Kyle Gilbride (Waxahatchee, Girlpool, Swearin’) which seems to be a natural fit for the band. The full length doesn’t hit the streets until October but go ahead and tease yourself with “Saturday!”
