THREE MAN CANNON (Scranton, PA) and LEE COREY OSWALD (Portland, OR) are excited to announce that they will be teaming up for a split LP due out in early 2013.
The 11-song album is scheduled for an official February 5th release and will be available on digital and 12-inch vinyl formats from Black With Sap Records (We Were Skeletons, Beau Navire, 1994!) and upstart labelStereophonodon Records, which was formed by Kite Party front man Russell Edling. The LP will be limited to 500 copies on various colorways and pre-orders will launch in two weeks. More info is forthcoming.
To celebrate today’s announcement, the bands and labels have teamed up with PropertyOfZack for anexclusive song premier featuring one new offering from each outfit. To stream Three Man Cannon’s“Interdependence” and “We Were Not The Basketball Team” from Lee Corey Oswald, go here.
An 11-day tour of the East Coast has also been announced in support of the upcoming split. Both bands will hit the road on December 13th through the 23rd and are scheduled to share the stage with Captain We’re Sinking, Timeshares, The Hotel Year, The Great Explainer and The World Is A Beautiful Place and I’m No Longer Afraid To Die and more. While the official version of the 12-inch won’t be ready for the road, Three Man Cannon and Lee Corey Oswald will have very special limited-edition tour test pressings for sale. Dates and other info is below.
Admittedly, we don’t know much about the mysterious Three Man Cannon, other than the fact that the four piece includes members of Tigers Jaw, Idiot Kid and King God. Public appearances have been limited and the band’s previous releases – 2010’s Nelson and the 2008 debut LP The Sound. The Fury. – have won a dedicated, albeit small fan base. Regardless, these five new tracks will undoubtedly be where 3MC makes its mark, with a sweet, slightly off-kilter sound that has the ability to incite raucous singalongs and bouts of foot stomping in one instant, and soothe the masses with bittersweet melodies and atmospheric flourishes the next. Imagine a folkier Modest Mouse … or maybe a more punk Mountain Goats and you get the idea.
Portland, OR’s Lee Corey Oswald is a different beast than its East Coast brethren, finding warmth in the hooky, blown-out fuzz rock and reverb-drenched riffs of yesteryear. Recorded and produced completely in analog by Kind Of Like Spitting’s Ben Barnett, these six new tracks revel in punk rock’s reckless abandon and the skewed pop harmonics of ’90s indie rock. The band originally started as an acoustic folk duo between Lee Ellis and Corey Ciresi, but the group has taken on many different incarnations. Never was that more apparent than in 2011’s Moon Songs, a full-length split into two camps: the electric side and the acoustic side. Lee Corey Oswald has grown quite a bit since then, traveling the US and touring with the likes of The Menzingers and Luther. The result is a confident blend of songwriting prowess and youthful exuberance that’s downright infectious.
Stay tuned for additional news on the split LP, including more song premiers and the launch of vinyl pre-orders. For more daily updates, follow Three Man Cannon and Lee Corey Oswald on Twitter here and here.
