Analog revival continues to roll strong this week, from ethereal shoegaze classics and jangly indie newcomers to lost proto-metal and Midwest screamo ephemera. Five fresh spins that capture the full spectrum of rediscovery — from dream to distortion.
LSD and the Search for God – Heaven Is a Place (Deluxe Edition) (Don Giovanni Records)
Original Release (EP): 2016 | Deluxe Edition Release: November 21, 2025 | Format: 12″ Blue Dream Vinyl, Foil Jacket, Fold-Out Poster
Pre-Order: Drop the Needle HERE
Why It Matters:
After nearly a decade of cult worship in the shoegaze underground, LSD and the Search for God’s Heaven Is a Place gets the deluxe treatment it always deserved. The San Francisco outfit’s reverb-drenched walls of sound and hazy dual vocals made the original EP an instant modern classic. This reissue wraps its cosmic swirl in upgraded packaging and shimmering analog fidelity — the kind of pressing that turns a bandcamp legend into a permanent shelf fixture.
Collector’s Note:
Deluxe Edition on Blue Dream vinyl with foil cover and a 24 × 24 fold-out poster. Limited one-time pressing of 3,000 copies.
Good Flying Birds – Talulah’s Tape (Carpark / Smoking Room)
Original Release (Cassette/Digital): January 2025 via Rotten Apple | Vinyl Reissue Date: October 17, 2025 | Format: Limited Color Variants (LP)
Pre-Order: Drop the Needle HERE
Why It Matters:
Born from DIY 4-track recordings and Midwest basements, Talulah’s Tape is a love letter to lo-fi indie pop — think early GBV, Beat Happening, and Talulah Gosh filtered through Gen Z’s cracked optimism. This vinyl edition pairs Carpark’s sonic polish with Smoking Room’s underground aesthetic, bridging bedroom tape warmth and jangle pop energy for a new wave of collectors. Excellent record (TFN review HERE) and glad to see its release now given the vinyl treatment.
Collector’s Note:
Limited Edition Carpark Exclusive “Fool’s Gold” Vinyl w/ Exclusive art print. (100 Copies). Limited Edition Yellow Vinyl (standard press). Ships October 17.
Porno for Pyros – Porno for Pyros (Rhino Reserve Series)
Original Release: 1993 | Reissue Date: October 18, 2025 | Format: 180-gram vinyl, Fidelity Record Pressing | Series: Rhino Reserve
Pre-Order: Drop the Needle HERE
Why It Matters:
Perry Farrell’s post-Jane’s Addiction project was as psychedelic as it was provocative, melding alt-rock and art-punk in a way few debut records have matched. Three decades later, Rhino’s audiophile-grade reissue brings the album’s lush production and hit single “Pets” back to life with precision and depth, reminding listeners how vibrant this ‘90s curiosity really was.
Collector’s Note:
Part of the prestige Rhino Reserve series, pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Fidelity Record Pressing with tip-on jacket and archival-quality sleeve. Exact quantity not disclosed but expected to be a limited one-time pressing. You can find it at indie stores.
Demian – S/T (RidingEasy Records)
Original Release: 1971 on ABC Records | Reissue Date: October 10, 2025 | Format: Color Vinyl Variants
Pre-Order: Drop the Needle HERE
Why It Matters:
Born from the ashes of Bubble Puppy, Demian took Texas psych’s wild-eyed imagination and fused it with early ‘70s hard rock precision. The result is a raw, melodic album that bridges garage grit and proto-metal swagger. RidingEasy’s reissue revives one of rock’s best-kept secrets, capturing the moment when fuzz gave way to fire.
Collector’s Note:
Pressed on “Radio Withdrawal” splatter vinyl, limited to 100 copies and aqua blue viny limited to 300 copies. Includes archival liner notes and faithfully restored artwork. Shipping now.
The Lazarus Plot – Something Good Has Got to Come Out of All These Goodbyes (Numero Group)
Original Recordings: 1998 – 1999 | Reissue Date: October 2025 | Format: Chipboard LP w/ 24-page Booklet | Limited Edition: 500 copies
Pre-Order: Drop the Needle HERE
Why It Matters:
Elgin, Illinois’ The Lazarus Plot stood at the heart of the Midwest’s cursed screamo scene — female-fronted, ferocious, and deeply emotional. Numero’s anthology captures the band’s entire output from 1997–1999, collecting their rare 7-inches, splits, and unreleased tracks with the archival care that has made the label legendary. This is DIY history pressed in cardboard and ink.
Collector’s Note:
Hand-screened chipboard jacket, limited to 500. Includes a 24-page booklet with lyrics, flyers, and photos. A must-grab for anyone who missed out on the $400 original 2×7″ set. This edition did sell out at Numero so hopefully you can still find one for a descent price on the second hand market.
Closing Groove
This round of The Vinyl Rewind unites five very different pasts — from California shoegaze dreamscapes and Midwest twee energy to Texas psych heaviness and Illinois heart-on-sleeve screamo. All remind us why vinyl remains the medium of memory and renewal: the surface noise might crackle, but the feeling never fades.
