Fast Money Music

Most debut albums tell you who an artist is. Fast Money Music — the alias of London-based Nick Hinman — does something trickier: it tells you who they’ve been. Written across a decade, the self-titled LP is part autobiography, part love story, part comedy, part wreckage. Bittersweet pop, jagged post-punk, and breezy jangle-pop filtered through GBV, The Cleaners from Venus, and ESG. It lands April 17 on Sick Records.

“There Are No Words” is its sharpest edge. Where earlier single “Unfortunately” leaned tender, this one cuts — angular guitars, a driving bassline, and a meta-awareness in its refrain that channels the chaos of a relationship coming apart at the seams. Part Clash, part Modern Lovers, part Specials, and completely locked in. The 1975’s John Waugh contributes screeching saxophone, Klaxons’ Steffan Halperin sits behind the drums, with Joshua Scarratt on backing vocals and Joe Lyons on bass.

“The phrase was originally plucked from a moment of awe and joy, but here it’s repurposed for the feeling of being backed into a corner with nothing left to give.” — Nick Hinman

The full album was produced by Grammy-nominated Mikko Gordon (IDLES, The Smile) and mixed at Hackney Road Studios, with mastering by Grammy-winning Matt Colton (Depeche Mode, Arctic Monkeys). The guest list runs deep — George Daniel and John Waugh of The 1975, Jamie Reynolds and Steffan Halperin of Klaxons, Daniel Vildòsola of CMAT and Haelos, plus Oliver Marson and Zoë Bleu. For a debut record, it arrives with a remarkable amount of company. Pre-order it below.
