White Lung
Paradise
Domino Records [2016]
Fire Drill Album Review: White Lung have to be one of the more under the radar great female fronted rock bands currently on the scene today. The band gets better and better with each release and has once again topped their last, Deep Fantasy (2014), with Paradise. I enjoy how the band boasts that no synths were used to create this record. That is because White Lung is full of piss and vinegar but now, like all aged things, the band has slightly eased off their more hardcore beginnings and brought just a touch more melody and hooks into the mix.
The result is a 29-minute record that blows you away with frontwoman Mish Barber-Way’s commanding vocals and a tight guitar-drum-bass combo roll that never allows breaks. This slicker sound works for the group and should be embraced by longtime followers because it contains rock’s essential elements. All you have to do is hear the pulsing, peel your face off, just over two minute closing title track and you will know what I am talking about! White Lung has a very similar Hole transistion sound as Paradise is the groups own sugar coated type of Celebrity Skin (1998) release. Still hard but ready for radio. If there ever was a chance for White Lung to break out, this album is it as it only gets better every time you crank up the volume!
