If there’s one philosophy here at The Fire Note, too much John Dwyer is never a bad thing-or at least it hasn’t been a problem yet. While John Dwyer is readying his solo LP under the name Damaged Bug, his band Thee Oh Sees have announced their follow-up to 2013’s great album Floating Coffin. Drop is slated to drop April 19 (Record Store Day 2014) via his own imprint Castle Face Records.
Here we have the first track, “Penetrating Eye.” While it carries that signature Sees vibe, it also sounds like someone’s spending a lot of time with friend Ty Segall. Holding a teetering, chewy sludge pattern that could have easily been influenced by Ty, FUZZ, or many other In The Red/Castle Face artists. Psych noises blare in the background and what Thee Oh Sees track wouldn’t be complete with out a delightfully, sinister Dwyer “La la la la.”
While a slower burn then some of their material, it seems that the full length Drop will have more surprises in store for us. Featuring spots by Chris Woodhouse(Crazy prominent in CA’s music scene), Mikal Cronin (Fire Note’s 2013 album of the year), and others. Thee Oh Sees have one more point to prove before going on “indefinite hiatus.” Could Drop be another knock out?
