New music has always raised the temperature around TFN and today’s Friday Fire Track from Vancouver-based Jo Passed is blowing the mercury out the top! The opening screeching guitar work on “MDM” is enough to keep your interest but as the song progresses with its laid-back vocals the consistent riff gets in your head and just propels the song to a different level. I keep thinking Pixies, Pavement and Sonic Youth all meet in a bar…You get the drift!
Jo Passed will release their full-length debut, Their Prime, on May 25th worldwide via Sub Pop records, with the exception of Canada through Royal Mountain Records. The album was recorded by the quartet during the fall / winter of 2016/17 at Thor’s Palace & KW Studios, both in the band’s hometown of Vancouver, British Columbia.
Based on “MDM,” this could be one of the better debuts we hear this year. Let’s hope – Enjoy your Friday.
