The Friday Fire Track: Fine Points – “Astral Season”

Matt Holliman and Evan Reiss are the twin guitar heroes of the Bay area band Sleepy Sun and they’ve teamed up for this side project which happily does not stray far from the mothership. Their sunny, reverb-heavy take on California psych-pop definitely recalls the ease of song craft found on last year’s Maui Tears. However if this track is any indication it seems like Fine Points is leaning more on dream pop and less on the spaced out jams they’ve perfected in their day jobs.

Given these two dudes stellar track record in that other band it’s a safe bet that there’s plenty more where “Astral Season” came from. File under “perfect for that drive down the Pacific Coast Highway in a convertible at 3AM.” Dine Alone Records will be releasing their debut full length, Hover, on July 17th.

Although Progressive Rock is the main focus, there will be features on a variety of musical genres including: indie, punk and metal. There are already too many snobs out there: we love all forms of music. Because music is love. It is the language of heaven.
