Face To Face
Hold Fast (Acoustic Sessions)
Fat Wreck Chords [2018]

Who: Southern California-based Face to Face have been pumping out catchy punk pop rock for 27 years.

Sound: Face to Face have always had a straight forward 90’s punk pop sound that is always filled with hooks surrounded by their grit. Hold Fast is an acoustic take on this base.

TFN Final Take: Hold Fast will be a surprise for Face to Face fans as the title, Hold Fast (Acoustic Sessions), is exactly as advertised. The new record features 10 acoustic takes of classic Face to Face tracks. You might think “terrible idea” but this approach will completely surprise you as the band breaks these tracks down to their bare bones. One of my favorite punk songs from the 90’s era always has been “Disconnected.” In its acoustic form, “Disconnected” becomes a heart on the sleeve emotional rollercoaster as every word in every lyric hits hard. This is exactly the different view you want of a band with an album like Hold Fast. Outside of Face to Face’s fanbase, there might not be much for the casual listener here unless you are really into acoustic albums. For fans, Hold Fast will just confirm the respect you have had for this career punk band and give you opportunity to rediscover some of their best tunes in an entire new way.
