Cayucas have premiered their new single at The Guardian as Band of the Day. (LINK TK) The new track, “Swimsuit” is the b-side to their single 7″ on Secretly Canadian. “Swimsuit” starts with a bright shimmery wave of organ and a solid bass line. The song speaks to Cayucas’ Santa Monica home base and is a welcome warm breeze for the winter months.
Listen to “Swimsuit”
As Cayucas, band leader Zach Yudin has created a sound steeped in his sunny California roots, each track a perfectly crafted pop gem. His catchy, addicting melodies are buoyed by syncopated rhythms and a breezy chorus of vocals. Built in layers and with exquisite atmospheric detail – the hiss of a needle in the groove, steel drum reverb, ambient party noise – Cayucas fixes to a place and time filled with the warmth of nostalgia and the joy of youth.
The 7″ single with title track “Cayucos” is out now and Yudin has been working with producer Richard Swift (The Shins, Damien Jurado, The Mynabirds) on a full-length album that will be released in early 2013. The band will also join Ra Ra Riot for their run of west coast shows in February of next year. A full list of dates is below.
