The White Stripes
White Blood Cells 7”s
Third Man Records [2012]
Third Man has been slowly reissuing The White Stripes early material and this trio of 7-inch singles comes to us from the White Blood Cells era. All three were reissued on Black Friday last year on opaque red vinyl and are a worthy pick up if you are a White Stripes fan, collector or both.
The singles of course are great and if you don’t already have them digitally the b-sides are worthy listens even though there is nothing here that is a must listen. With that said, “Hotel Yorba” and the Loretta Lynn cover “Rated X” were recorded live at the actual Hotel Yorba which makes for a nice conversation piece. The other two singles also offer live session b-sides so if you buy these together there really is an overall pattern to the set.
From a fan/collector perspective, I don’t think you should pass on these releases as they are still easy to find. If you have the original XL versions it really is a choice of collection completion.
