Captured Tracks is still one of my favorite labels but as their roster has grown I think some of their early core sound has been somewhat overshadowed. Great albums from Beach Fossils, DIIV and Wild Nothing highlighted a break out period for the label and reissued to the world the classic indie-alternative meets new wave type of style.
I have been waiting for CT to spring another band with a similar footprint at us and I believe EZTV may fill the void. Their new album, Calling Out, won’t see the streets until July 10 but you can get your first taste of their sound with today’s fire track, “The Light.”
This single finds the three piece offering a very clean college pop sound in the classic vein of Cleaners From Venus, which if you read any of our box set reviews; you know that is a good thing. “The Light” has a foot tapping bounce to its smooth rhythms as the chorus will stick in your head. With the passion of The Smiths, a youthful vigor from being in their mid-20s, Jarvis Taveniere of Woods as producer and the indie rock sweetness of The Posies, EZTV just possibly may release one of the better debuts we will hear in 2015.
