Moondaddy Finds Light in the Shadows with “Great Expansion”
San Diego’s Moondaddy new single “Great Expansion,” gives you a glimpse of their just released album Dove Tapes. Fronted by singer, songwriter, and producer Cara Potiker, Moondaddy’s sound feels like a hazy sunrise after a long night — all glowing guitars, soft-focus synths, and that analog warmth you can almost touch.
“Great Expansion” captures love that’s slipped through the cracks of time, wrapping loss in a wash of hypnotic melody and cinematic shimmer. Potiker’s voice floats through the fuzz, turning reflection into release. Recorded straight to tape at Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas with Manuel Calderon (Animal Collective, Portugal. The Man, Beach House) and mastered by Paul Gold (Grizzly Bear, Songs: Ohia), the track proves Moondaddy’s commitment to sound that breathes — alive, raw, and perfectly imperfect.
The band—Potiker joined by Patrick Heaney (drums), Robert Wren (bass), Gabriel Poissant (guitar), and Eric Coughanor (cello)—has grown tighter and more confident since last year’s Lightwave Lightwave EP. Dove Tapes promises to take that cinematic palette even further, blending heartbreak, hope, and analog magic into one hypnotic swirl.
