Kendra Morris – “Flat Tire” [Video]

Kendra Morris Rolls the Dice with New Single “Flat Tire” — Watch the Video Now!

Brooklyn soul alchemist Kendra Morris is back in full color with Next, her upcoming concept album due September 19 via Colemine / Karma Chief Records. It’s a retro-futurist trip built like a board game, with every track a different move on the map. Today’s move? A roadside detour called “Flat Tire” — a lo-fi reggae shuffle that’s warm, warped, and totally stuck in your head.

Written from the trenches of artistic chaos, “Flat Tire” spins Kendra’s frustration into something laid-back and wobbly—with a wink. “It’s about chasing big dreams and totally wiping out,” Kendra says. “But I’d rather crash and laugh than sit still and play it safe.”

Sonically, it’s a dusty postcard from 1960s Jamaica. The groove starts with a backward guitar flick and flows through doo-wop harmonies, tape hiss charm, and a sly organ line from Ray Jacildo (The Black Keys, Jr. Thomas & The Volcanos). Bonus points for her band’s ragtag background vocals—“imperfect and raw,” just the way she likes it.

Next is shaping up to be Kendra’s most hands-on, heart-forward album yet—recorded between her Brooklyn apartment and Loveland, Ohio’s Portage Studios. She wrote the whole thing herself, co-produced it with Leroi Conroy, and even picked up the guitar. The whole record moves like an old Super 8 film: soulful, homemade, and buzzing with personality.

Watch the DIY video for “Flat Tire,” crafted by Kendra herself, and start exploring the world of Next. From the tearjerker “Dear Buddy” to the slinky funk of “If I Called You” and the wildcard “Bill,” there’s plenty to land on. It’s messy, it’s magic, and it’s coming your way soon.
