Katy & the Null Sets Drift Into Surreal Beach Magic With “Chlorine”
Katy & the Null Sets just dropped the video for “Chlorine,” and it’s a perfect sideways breeze of a clip—dreamy, weird, and quietly magnetic. Directed by Eli Staats, the video finds Katy wandering the Oregon coast while slowly decorating herself in beach junk collected from the Goodwill bins. It’s both tender and off-kilter, a visual that fits the spirit of Troublemaker, Katy Ohsiek’s debut LP and one of the year’s most refreshing left-turn records. (If you missed our full breakdown of the album, you can catch the review HERE.)
Troublemaker pulls from all corners—bossa nova sway, 2000s indie shimmer, and breezy Americana—while Katy threads everything together with wry lyrics and a voice that feels naturally intimate. The record moves through crushes, misfires, self-doubt, winter gloom, and those sudden emotional flashes you only understand months later. Whether it’s the restless ache of “I Wish I Had Met You In The Summer,” the alt-rock tension in “Fuck Me,” or the slow-unraveling anxiety of “Last Time/Next Time,” Katy always keeps things sharp, personal, and sneakily catchy.
Recorded in Portland with producer Yu Kiatvongcharoen and a small circle of Northwest collaborators, the album has the loose, organic feel of friends chasing the right moment and landing on something honest every time.
“Chlorine” captures that same vibe—beautiful, a little strange, and just emotionally tilted enough to stick with you.
