Friko Turn Up the Heat on “Seven Degrees” — Big Feelings, Bigger Hooks

Chicago’s own Friko are back and swinging for the rafters. The band just dropped the video for “Seven Degrees,” the first taste of their new record Something Worth Waiting For, due April 24 via ATO Records.

“Seven Degrees” starts loose and bright, then slowly stacks the tension until the final stretch bursts wide open. It has that classic psych folk glow, the kind of tune you shout along to with the windows down. Big chorus. Big lift. Big heart. It feels effortless, but it hits hard.

This time around, Friko handed the reins to producer John Congleton, recording at his LA studio and focusing less on tinkering and more on instinct. You can hear it. The edges are rougher in a good way. The performances feel alive, like they caught lightning instead of polishing it away.

The new album leans into motion and change. Life on tour. New bandmates. Late nights. The push and pull of trying to get somewhere while realizing the ride might be the whole point. There’s noise rock grit, dreamy ballads, and left turns that keep things interesting. It sounds like a group trusting their gut and going all in.

The “Seven Degrees” video adds a playful twist too, diving into the tiny but intense world of RC cars. It’s weirdly charming and fits the song’s energy. Scrappy, fast, a little chaotic, and a lot of fun.

Friko celebrate the release with a hometown show at Metro, which feels exactly right. This band belongs in a packed room with everyone yelling the chorus back at them.
