Wussy: Left For Dead [Album Review]

Wussy
Left For Dead
Shake It Records [2007]

Wussy is a four-piece indie rock band from Cincinnati that alternates between male and female vocals, enhanced by powerful harmonies. Left for Dead is the band’s sophomore effort, continuing their melodic yet distorted sound with a stronger focus on rock elements. The unique and smooth voice of Ass Ponys’ Chuck Cleaver is balanced by Lisa Walker’s bluesy, powerful vocals, as Wussy delivers one catchy tune after another.

Compared to their stellar debut Funeral Dress (2005), Left for Dead brings more intensity, featuring tougher, more distorted tracks with thunderous drumbeats. The album surprises listeners, opening with the pleasant ballad “Trail of Sadness” before quickly shifting gears to the in-your-face “Rigor Mortis,” which sets the tone for the rest of the record. If you’re a fan of Wussy’s debut or the Ass Ponys, Left for Dead will hit the right notes. It’s a solid release that gets better with every listen.

Key Tracks: “Trail of Sadness” / “Rigor Mortis” / “Melody Ranch”
